Living in the real world

It boggles me that in this day and age, the real world seems to have become a forgotten concept. Everywhere that I go, I see people spending more and more time on their phones than interacting with each other and actually having conversations with each other. It has literally become a foreign concept to interact with people on a human level.

Technology as it stands now did not exist when I was growing up and it has become even more of a foreign concept with couples that have children. Parents have become more engrossed in what is going online than what their children are showing them. Children's minds are constantly stimulated by the world around them and trying to get their parents attention is near impossible because what is going on in the internet is more important than spending time with your children and actually showing an interest in how they see the world.

How is it that technology has taken such control of our lives that we find it to be more important. Your phone or your computer will always be there but your children are going to grow up thinking that you don't care because your online social life is more important than them. Children do not stay small forever. We are crucial in their development. Putting them in front of a TV or tablet screen is not going to help their minds develop and help them understand the world around them if we don't play an active role in their development. Yes, they need to go to school and all the rest of it but they need their parents to teach them how to handle the real world and to cope. Now, in order for that to happen, take an interest in their world and see things through their eyes and in their minds. Parents need to teach their children life skills.

The real world is changing on a daily basis, be there for your children and absorb the world around you. It is not only our greatest and most powerful healer but also our greatest teacher. Pretending like it not there is like saying it does not exist. The reality is, the real world exists, but you are choosing not to be a part of it and that is no way to live because you can learn so much from the world around.

We need to teach this to the youngest generation right now and help them to understand what the real world is about. They need to be prepared to be able to survive otherwise they will run from it because it will be too much for them to handle.

This is a world that I live in, the real world, yes it is hard, yes, it can be alot to take in if you are not taught from a young age how to communicate when you do not understand something. We can all learn from each other, children are our greatest teachers as well because in order to help them grow into functional adults in modern society, we need to see things through their eyes and help them to deal with how things will be for them one day.

Things are changing all the time but life will always be hard and we need to show that to the future generations and the current generation so that things will be easier for them to deal with.

Have the conversations with them and around them so that they don't go looking elsewhere for the information. I have one friend who keeps chasing her children out the room every time conversations like this need to be had and she even does it around me and makes me take her daughter out the room. The child is now ten years old, an age where those conversations need to be had between mother and daughter.

There are other conversations that need to be had between parents and their children but they are not having them when they are young and then when they get older, the daughters get raped and abused and treated like dirt by their husbands and boyfriends etc and men in general because mommy was too embarrassed to have those talks with her. The same goes for fathers and their sons, teach your sons how to treat a woman with respect and dignity and not a piece of property.

I know those conversations are hard but if you don't encourage your children to be able to come to you and talk to you about anything, then this world is in serious trouble.

I was raised the old fashioned way in which these conversations were had at the appropriate time, some of them even before it came up. Please can we go back to this way because at the end of the day. The real world will always exist and that will never change. Let's not hide it away and teach the younger generations that it is okay if you don't understand it, we are here to teach you so that you can.
