Gratitude for living

There is one very important reason for this topic today and that is because three years ago today I should have been dead had these bastards gotten their way and gotten it right. I was on my way to a meeting and as I don't have car, I was on foot. If I was 100 metres from my destination it was alot. Shortly before this happened I noticed a car randomly driving around and had a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach that something was not right about this picture . So I quickened my pace but unfortunately, it was not fast enough as they spotted me. What they did next I did not see coming. As they pulled up next to me, the passenger grabbed hold of my laptop bag and because I had been a little too slow in reacting to the situation the car got swung into reverse and the driver tried to get away, with me hanging on to the bag.
As he was manoeuvering the car to get away they screwed up and hit a middle island and as a result I was let go after being dragged backwards for about 100 metres.
Thereafter I was able to get to where I was going in order to get help. I was taken home where I was able to contact my mom. I lost my main phone in the scuffle but luckily had a spare sim card so I could get it into a phone and was able to get hold of my mom who rushed home from work to come and clean me up. We lived next door to each other at this point so she came and picked me up and took me next door where I spent the night. I was scraped up quite badly and sustained some pretty nasty injuries from my hips down, the worst of which was from my knees down. My feet looked like I had a very bad case of elephantiasis. It was horrible. That swelling remained for the better part of a month before I could wear any real kind of shoes. It was the worst thing I could have ever gone through.
I am very fortunate to be alive right now to tell my story. In South Africa we are currently in a campaign for 16 days of activism for no violence against women and children. The sad part is, more women and children get hurt in this period than any other time and it is getting worse as the years go by and unfortunately many if not majority of cases are not reported.
This story has not been told until now and I am telling it now because we need to speak out about this disgusting scourge that is raging against women and children.
