This has been one of the quieter Christmases for my family but it was a very pleasant one because I got to spend it with people that I love and cherish dearly. They are people that mean the world to me.

That gammon that I cooked for lunch today turned out to be such a winner. It came out so beautifully. Cooked through perfectly and got the crackling just right. I don't think any of my social media pages have stopped today or will stop for a few days. The festive season is in full swing and it has been a very merry time indeed. Got a little bit carried away with the brandy but was at least eating so it will have absorbed alot of the alcohol.

We are not the type to really give out presents anymore as my brother and I are not small anymore and neither of us have had children of our own yet. With him also being away it does make it a bit emotional. It was also officially the first Christmas without my maternal grandmother as she passed away last new years eve.

I did post up some pictures on my Instagram story and feed if you want go and have a look (@helensellick). Had a really jolly time today and I will probably say that a few times because I enjoyed it so much.

I really hope that the coming year is very prosperous one for all of you and that all your wishes come true. The memories are the most important because are the things that will last for the rest of your lives. Your kids will outgrow the toys and all the rest of the other stuff. Always cherish how they make you laugh with their little giggles and games. They will only be little and young for a short time and that is what you need to record as much of as possible.

We have so many pictures of my brother and I when we were kids and every year we dig them out and look through all of them. I sometimes wonder about that mop of curly hair which i still have and looking back on how chubby my brother used to be when he was a baby and growing up. I was this skinny little girl and here was my brother (or as my mom used to call him, her little Buddha).

Yes, those curls are completely natural and hate the cold and wet weather because it gets a mind of its own and is completely uncontrollable. I have adjusted to them but they still irritate me sometime when they refuse to behave.

Christmas is probably my favourite time of the year though because at the end of the day, it is always a good day with plenty food and drinks and loads of new memories to carry into the rest of our lives. No surprises is that there is always food left over for days afterwards. I even have some of it in my fridge as I write this. Between four of us we still managed to have left overs.

I am extremely blessed to have such a loving and amazing family who have always been there for me and to be able to spend Christmas with them every year really does mean the world to me.

Once again I really hope you all have a safe, happy and blessed Christmas this year. Hope you made lots of memories that you will cherish forever.

Will tell you all about my wishes for the coming year over the next few days.

See you then
