Battling mental health issues.

This is something that is nothing new to me. I have been suffering with mental health issues for most of if not my whole life. I have been suffering with anxiety and depression for as long as I can remember and it has not been an easy ride. This is something that will affect all of us at some point in our lives because most of us are prevalent to it.
It is not something that is going to go away just by turning a blind eye and pretending it doesn't exist. It is high time people stopped sweeping it under the carpet as though it was just a phase in our lives. This is a serious issue which needs to be tackled head on. I have come out to tell my story so that people can know that it is something that we will all have to face and I wanted those who are suffering in silence to know that they are not alone and there is always someone to talk to about it.
What we all need to understand is that when someone is telling you that they are feeling down or depressed the last thing that you should be doing is telling them to get over it because it is not something that you just get over in the blink of an eye. You need to know exactly what is going on with them, let them tell you what is bothering them because for all you know, the same thing could be on your mind and maybe you can relate and assure them that you are there for them to speak to at any time and that they are not alone. They are telling you what is going on with them and how they are feeling because they trust you enough to let you know that they are hurting and they don't know how to deal with it.
The stigma surrounding mental health needs to be addressed and we need to stop behaving as though it is just a minor issue because it is a big problem especially at this time of the year.
Scary enough some of the people that suffer with it and have no idea how to deal with it are men and that is where the stigma surrounding this issue is even worse because according a man, he is not allowed to have mental health issues and is not allowed to be depressed or suffer from anxiety or any other mental health problem for that matter. They deal with it in the worst possible way by acting out and getting angry and drinking very heavily. They get abusive because to deal with that level of emotion is seen as a bad thing and that it will be held against them.
I get suicidal thoughts all the time and have my crying spells in the middle of the night. I actually had one of those meltdowns earlier this morning and it is still affecting me at the moment because I get the spells on and off for at least a few days when the attacks come. If i didn't have my family and the people closest to me to get me through with the love and support they have given then it is almost guaranteed that I would have done something stupid to end the pain.
It has taken me a long time to tell this story and I will probably still struggle a bit to tell it because it will still take me a while before I can live a productive life in which it does not make me want to curl up into a ball and wish the world away and believe me that happens every day. It is a daily struggle inside your own head.
So, if you are struggling with mental health issues, do not ignore them or do something stupid to take your pain away because the pain will be worse for those you leave behind. Talk to somebody and get the help you need to make it easier to handle.
I have another big story to tell you but that can wait until tomorrow.
